The Role of a School Counselor
School counselors work with ALL students in three domains: Academic, Career, and Social-Emotional.
During the school year, the school counselor teaches lessons to all students in the classroom, holds small group counseling, as well as provides individual counseling on an as needed basis.
School counselors serve as leaders in the school, advocating for student success, systemic change, and collaborating with teachers, administration, families, and other district colleagues.
The school counselor provides services that are preventative in nature and collaborates with the school social workers, psychologists, and other community stakeholders in connecting students and families to necessary resources.
